Our Story
About Big Sky Chapel
For years, a permanent place of worship was only a dream for the residents of Big Sky. In 1993, a group of leaders organized a fund-raising campaign to transform this dream into reality. The community wholeheartedly supported the ambitious project.
Exactly one year after breaking ground, the completed Chapel was dedicated on Mother's Day, 1999, in an ecumenical ceremony. The participating clergy — Catholic, Episcopal, Lutheran, Jewish, and Christian Fellowship — represented the diversity of faiths in our community.
Designed by local architect Steve Coffey, the Chapel is built of rustic log and stone. As you enter the sanctuary, your focus is drawn to the panoramic view of Lone Peak Mountain through the massive log-framed window behind the altar. The stained glass windows, created by Bozeman artist David Fjeld, depict mountain wildflowers and wildlife.
